Thank you. I don’t know how I will put into words what 2019 meant to me and to The Quiet Guiding Company. But you know I’ll try.
Thank you.
I started the year with an idea:
To slow down adventure travel.
To provide a “quiet” experience within the context of (small) group travel.
To have time to listen to the barred owl call “who cooks for you” or the persistent American bullfrog who grunted all night.
To smell the smoke off of a damp campfire after a day of paddling in the September rain.
To delight in our own capabilities.
To read a book when we felt like it.
To swim if the moment felt right.
And you came along with me. Thank you.
You managed the deer and horse flies with aplomb.
You portaged gear across winding trails with grace.
You sous-chefed veggies for lunch and gathered firewood for fires.
You drank strong coffee with me in the morning.
You sang and laughed and shared stories.
My heart sang back in gratitude.
Thank you.
I have lots of good things planned for next year: a winter camping trip, a backpacking trip, some longer canoe trips, and of course my favorite Killarney route.
I hope to see you out there.
Wishing you all the best for 2020!
